Systems Restoring old files on new rebuild

HELP!!
I had a problem that my computer store said the best solution was a new mother board. What he didn't tell me was he was going to wipe my hard drive. I was able to load my programs back on (that I had on hand!). He said he saved all my files. They are all saved in .dbx form and I can't open any of them. My computer guy has no clue what to do. The files include not just saved e-mails, but, also pictures, documents, business records, etc., etc. When I try to open any of the .dbx files it says notepad is to small to open the file, would I like to use wordpad. I answer yes, but the files come up only in computer symbols mixed with some words. I have tried to open the .dbx files in all my other programs (word, photoshop, quickbooks, etc.) and none of them work. The computer wants to open them only in notepad and wordpad.
Any suggestions??? Virgil

it's pretty difficult to transfer Outlook Express files to another computer, which is virtually what you have with a new motherboard.
The dbx files are the way OE stores it's files.
You can try and re-extract them ..but as I said it might not work with a new motherboard.

Hi Virgil,
I was surfing the web last week and found a dbx extractor. I don't recall the web site but if you'd like I'll email it to you. Just let me know.

Gerry
