GeForce 3 TI 500 - Can't play DVDs
For some ungodly reason I can't play DVDs on my computer. I don't have anything hooked up to my video card's tv-out at all, and I keep getting the macrovision error. My DVD player is a Creative 16X PC-DVD. Anyone have any idea on how I can watch my DVDs? This is absolutley ridiculous that I can't watch DVDs on my computer's "DVD-Player". I've read that I need to disable TV-Out - but how do I do that? I couldn't find anything in my video card's settings (yes, I have updated drivers).
Any help would be appreciated. I tried some of the programs like TVTool, but they didn't seem to do the trcik (and I shouldn't have to pay money for a program that allows me to watch a DVD when I should be able to do this in the first place).
I hope someone out there has figured this one out.
Thanks!
- Mike

what program are you using to play your DVD's with? it could be that that program needs to be reinstalled (or just plain sucks).
also are the DVDs you're trying to play originals or burned? and what region are they encoded for. the reason i ask is cause macrovision deals in security and digital rights management and such and i'm thinking maybe it has something to do with that.
first of all you shouldn't have to disable tv-out (you don't on mine), and also if you didn't sepcifically enable tv-out then it's disabled by default...i don't really think that's the problem though.
this is just a theory...but i would be willing to bet it is the program you are using to play your DVDs with. not sure tho till i get more information

I've tried like 4 programs now (WinDVD which came with my drive, trials of NVDVD, DirectDVD, and some other one, forget the name). All of which I've reinstalled several times.
They're not burned DVDs, and they are Region 1. It really should work! If tv-out IS enable - how do I disable it? Under device selection in my advanced settings I have Analog Display selected (the only option). My monitor is a ViewSonic CRT.
I'm getting really frusterated with the fact that I can't watch a DVD I BOUGHT with a DVD player I BOUGHT for the sole purpose of wathcing DVDs on my computer.

hmm...very interesting.
tv-out can be enabled in two manners: one is through windows, the other through the nvidia drivers. to check and see if it is enabled through windows, go to control panel->display->settings. if tv-out is enabled (or dual monitors in general) you will see a dark box in the upper portion of the window with two squares numbered 1 and 2. if neither are grayed out then dual monitors is enabled (windows see's tv-out as dual monitors). if one is grayed out or you just have the normal picture of a single monitor then it is disabled. to check this through the nvidia drivers go to control panel->display->settings->advanced->geforce3->nview display mode and make sure "standard" is selected (this is all assuming you are using windows 2k/xp and nvidia detonator 4x.x drivers). also note that if you don't have a tv or other monitor PHYSICALLY plugged into your computer then dual-monitors CANNOT be enabled...that's just how it works. and besides, if you're using windvd then dual monitors won't affect it (i use windvd on occasion with dual monitors myself...i have a geforce4 myself, which is very similar to your card) if analog display is your only option then tv-out/dual monitors is disabled.
try not to get frustrated while working on computers...it will lead to mistakes and a lot of lost time.
also typing this response made me think of some other stuff. what operating system are you using? in my experience 9x (and even 2k) can cause "issues" with dvd drives (they sometimes are recognized as cd-rom drives only...not always tho).

Hey original
I tried what you said but couldn't find that "standard" option you mentioned. I have the 41.45 Detonator Drivers (the ones before the latest release - the new ones give me a stutter problem on start up - though I did install the latest just to see if they would work, but they didn't). Anyway, I want to Display Settings -> Advanced -> GeForce 3 - but I couldn't find nView Display Mode. But what I did find under Desktop Utilities from that pop-out bar was the option to Enable Desktop Manager - and then click on Desktop Manager Configuration - that gives a a window with a nView logo (don't know if this is what you were talking about). Anyway - I still didn't find anything in here under standard.
Under device selection in the GeForce 3 pop-out thing, I have analog display selected (which is the one thing I CAN select).
So I still don't know why I don't get play back. My Top Gun DVD works on WinDVD (the menus at least do) up until I try to play the actual movie - then it blocks it out again.
So once again I don't know what I should do!
Btw, I'm running Windows 2000.
Thanks for your help bro!
- Mike
So I'm still at a loss on what to do.

Did you check the region code for the DVD Drive? It may be that the DVDs are not working due to the region code not being set correctly.

That's all set up correctly. Drive is in Region 1, DVD is a Region 1.
The problem is I can't disable tv-out - or at least Macrovision thinks tv-out is enable, and I can't figure out how to disable it with my drivers (latest Detenator GeForce 3 Ti500).
