Tablet PC ????? Help !!!

A friend of mine is in the trucking industry and is interested in tablet PCs. The advantage she sees in it is the versatility with languages and using it for inventory taking and checking load inventory.

The problem(s): [*] Vibration[*] Battery Life[*] Periferal Equipment[*] Screen Pixel Damage[*] EXTREME Tempurature Changes -20 to +130 F

She's shared with me that many truckers actually hang their laptops in fishnets in their sleepers. This helps with the vibration a lot, but does not address the last two issues.

I was hoping some state-of-the-art-aware person could let me know if there is something new and improoved out, or coming out soon that can withstand the environmental extremes, and vibration yet have the versatility offered by the Tablet PC.

Thanks in advance for your informed reply .........

Here are some very rugged notebooks, watch the video, they abuse 'em!

But, you are looking to spend $4k-$5k+ on one of these monsters.

I was told that the **absolute worst** is the constant vibration from the Rig's engine.

Protection from an accidental drop, and falling under things in a traveling tool box are not the specs, and weighing in starting at eight pounds and up is not really the idea either.

Light weight, hand-writing style, and able to run in an vibrating environment.

Any more input .... new things coming out .... etc ???

Well, I dont think your going to get something that will work in a vibrating environment that has good hand writing software. I just tested a tablet for the company I work for and the hand writing software is still somewhat sub-par even when sitting still. Trying to walk with it or use it in a car is very hard. So i would imagine using in it a truck would be even worse. But then again I could be wrong
