making a removable hdd rack

hey guys. i wonder how hard it would be to turn an old cd-rom drive into one of those lockable removable hdd rack things? anyone ever try this? can it be done?

It probably could be done. I don't see why not as long as you can get all the parts. However, I think the time and money consumed to make one of these would cost you more. Might be cheaper buying a USB or Firewire case. I've seen some where you can make CD drives interchangeable with HDDs...

cracked was referring to a removable rack for a cdrom drive. Those racks will not work for CDROM drives...

Ummm... are you sure? I re-read his post, and it seems pretty clear that he wants it to fit in a 5.25" bay and hold a HDD.
