fretome, many people like the things that AOL has to offer.
Don't listen to those guys. Actually they were thread crapping by even saying things like that. (Joe Desa, sharder, dlh75 And DoctorReno!) In case none of you noticed he was asking for help not opinions at that point.
AOL is fine for many people. But if you find that you get too much junk in your mail box or you want to strike out on your own, they limit the way you can serf the net.
You might want to try Earthlink,.
I can't speak for them now, but they were a good provider when I was with them up until a couple years ago.

Sorry for the thread crapping Auntie Surreal! (But it's true!!!
Okay, my recommendation would be . . . . . . . . . .
Earthlink (My brother has it and I've used it as well!)
Or, how about a local ISP!

OK surreal now that I've helped am I now free to tell him to stay the heck away from AOL? Although he has already install the AOL "virus" on his computer it's impossibly get rid of it without a format. | DITTO me too!

On my daughter's laptop the AOL icon appears on the explorer window where I usually see the globe. She isn't and has never been, with AOL (because I was in an earlier life - need I say more!) but how do I get rid of it? I suspect that is part of the problem with her laptop slowing down - I just blame them for everything.
I was thinking I should get rid of Explorer and reinstall/download but how do I do that if I have no browser ie because I have uninstalled?
Should this be a separate thread by the way?

| YUP! It should be a seperate thread.
In answer to your question though, it will depend on what operating system you're running. Back when I was running W98SE, I downloaded a program called IEradicator to remove IE.
Recommendation:
1. Backup all important files.
2. Get a CD that has IE on it, (just incase ya' want to reload it again), a local ISP will have it, or in a pinch, you can load it off an MSN disk without loading MSN. (Just explore the disk!)
3. Download:
a. Opera - get it working correctly
b. IEradicator
3. Run IEradicator after reading the instructions.
Have fun!

surreal is right. I didn’t offer any help for the problem fretome is having. Sorry.
However,,, you can save yourself from all kinds of hassles by staying away from AOL,, and like DoctorReno said MSN. It’s as bad as AOL. They restrict your access to the web and change stuff without warning you. Then you spend hours trying to figure out why it stopped working, only to find out they shut off that capability,, and the spam, spam, spam fills your mailbox everyday.
Earthlink is good. I don’t use their software though,, so I can’t say anything good or bad about it,, I like to use differed browsers like Mozilla, Opera (has a great pop-up blocker) and IE,, and for POP3 email I to use Outlook express, it makes it so easy to organize and keep track of stuff and use other mail servers.
The best way to help an AOL user is to recommend they try a better ISP. Why spend time in AOL hell when you don’t have to.
And that AOL commercial,, the one with their icon guy in bed with a chick,, it’s……. it’s low rent to say the least. God only knows what little kids think when they see it.
