Kids ...need help with Itronix XC 6250 Pro, please...

Dear folks,

I have just recently bought an Intronix XC6250 Pro laptop on ebay. It has 266 Mhz Cyrix GXm processor, 64 Mb of RAM, 6 Gb HDD, vehicle cradle with CD-ROM drive, NO floppy drive and there is no operation system so far.
So, I was going to load Win98 on it, but the problem I face with it is that when I boot it up, I can only go to the BIOS , and further I got prompted with "Invalid system disk, I/O error, Replace disk and press any key".
So, the laptop has no floppy drive, but I was able to take the hard drive out and plugged it in to my desktop. After running fdisk and formatting , I installed Win 98 on it , and then I took it out from desktop and plugged back into the laptop, hoping that it will let me go at least to the DOS prompt, but I still get the same prompt message "Invalid system disk, I/O error, Replace disk and press any key". I have no way to boot from floppy, so really don't know how to go about it. I would really very much apreciate if some of you could get me any hint of how to get it working.

Thanks
Rava

Hi Rava,

Make sure you don't have a PCMCIA card inserted, as these computers do check for bootable cards. If this isn't the issue, you may need to open the unit up and make sure the IDE cable is plugged in correctly. The hard drive may be plugged in upside down. Also check that the hard drive doesn't have a bent pin or something.

I just had an afterthought. In the BIOS, make sure that you specify that you AREN'T using a floppy drive. If the previous user was using one, it may be trying to boot from it still. This is most likely the issue.

Thanks a lot dear friend, yes you're right, and I initially also thought that this will be the issue, but see the problem is that the BIOS of the XC6250 Pro is somewhat different from the BIOS in XC6250, for example there is no option to uncheck the boot from Floppy , there is a Boot tab , where you can select boot option between PC Card and Hard Drive and I set it as Hard Drive. Before the system was prompting me for an error of boot sector of the hard drive. So I took the hard drive apart and thru an adapter connected it to the IDE cable of my desktop, where I formatted the hard disk, ran fdisk and installed Win98, and it was running on the desktop! And now I still got "Invalid system disk and so on"
I heard something about that there is some hint with XC6250, and Itronix made it that way so that I may need to get a floppy drive to boot, but I wonder if there is any other way, or can I boot from CompactFlash card plugged into PCMCIA slot?

Thanks

Rava

6250 boot problem

Check out the Itronix 6000/6250 group at Yahoo!

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/itronix6000/

You are welcome to join or just search through the messages.

I think the problem is when you format the drive it has to be normal fat and not fat32. Also do not enable large disk support when formatting.

Hope this helps.
