Logitech Z 680's w/Audigy 1394: Digital Sound

I just got a set of logitech Z 680's. I have a Sound Blaster Audigy w/1394 Fire Wire. Due to the thoroughly incomplete documentation with the Logitech speakers, I have no clue what type of adapter to buy so I can utilize the Dolby Digital sound option. The Logitech info says I need a coaxial cable, the Audigy info says I need "minijack-to-DIN cable, MiniDisc or DAT." I'm lost. Is there any standard adapter I can ask for say as 'Best Buy' that will work with both?

You can use a 1/8" mono mini to 1/4" phono (rca) adapter to plug a digital coax cable into the speaker's control unit and the sound card.

http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...5Fid=274%2D897 is the adapter that I used

http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...5Fid=15%2D1090 is the cable that I used

LMK if you have any more questions

Kc2iLq,

THANKS!! I had a pair of Z 560's, but in a FREAK accident I toasted the Amp in the sub-woofer. After having having sound that good I couldn't settle for anything less than premium sound again, so I sprang for the Z 680's. (Cost me even more because I had to buy my wife a comparable 'toy' price wise, ouch!)
Thanks Again!! wallie_x

No problem!
Just make sure that when you set up the sound card for the speakers, you tell it not to decode AC3 audio in the Creative Surround Mixer settings window. This lets your amp do the decoding and decide which speakers get each audio channel.

Kc2iLq,
I'm all set up now and got it up and running on pure Dolby Digital (via the Logitech amp, I was wondering about that AC3 check box in the 'Advanced' settings on the mixer panel.)
They sound great!! No hum or background hiss as I read at 'Price Grabber' reviews. Maybe those guys set theirs up wrong? Thanks again!! wallie_x

I only notice the hiss wehn the room is totally quite and I am right up next to the center speaker. People complain to much about little noise. But it might be becasue most peo0ple use the analog and thats what cuases the hiss, maybe going digital doesn't cause it.

premium? I thought the 680's had some issues with the center channel hissing. How's the sub? I heard they further improved the 560 sub and made it a bit cleaner.

Yes the sub on the Z680s is by far much better than the 560s. The upped the watts a tiny bit and made the frequensie spread bigger, so you here notes more clearer.

I haven't noticed a lot of difference except one. I have a corner group desk now so the subwoofer is now pointing toward a corner of the room where as before it just pointed toward a wall (both under the desk). I've had to turn it down a lot in relation to the other functions or it over powers the room in too much bass.
The Dolby Digital, while giving better mid range tones overall, than the Z 560's, are not as clean as some of the tones with the Z 560's. I just got these Z 680's up and running so a little tweaking and learning all the functions will surely help. I am impressed, but for $280 delivered at my door and coupled with a $75 SB-Audigy, they should do something good.
