Dual booting win98se
Hi there
I was wondering, if there is a way that I can dual boot 2 versions of win98se? I mean that I would choose in the begining which one should start, and doesn't "see" any of the stuff that are installed in the other one.
I figured that a switch would be useful for choosing between two hard drives which one will work, but I need more suggestions.
Thanks

it can be done...you will need to replace the native dos/win98 boot loader with a third party package Like PowerQuest's BootMagic (there might be other freeware/shareware pgms that do the same).
or if you don't want to spend any money at all and have time to invest, you can use the replacement boot loader which installs when you load nt,w2k, or xp (haven't played w/xp enough to gurantee the last option). it will take some doing however and you need to be reasonable level-techie.
as always, before you mess around...try to backup any valuable data you might have on the drive.

Just out of curiosity, why do you want to boot 2 versions of 98 SE? I could see like 98 SE Win2k, or XP.
Also, I am sure this is obvious, separate on 2 different partitions.

For what you want to do, get GHOST or DRIVE IMAGE. If I don't like something's that been subsequently installed, I'll try uninstalling it. If it doesn't work, I'll just exectue the Image.

Thanks for the answers...
The reason that I am trying to do this is because I want to have 2 users of win98se in one machine and the one can't "see" any of the stuff that the other user has (programs, files, even hard disk in order not to share any of the software).
I don't have either win NT, 2k or XP so that I can try something with the boot loader.
As for the boot loaders, is it possible to boot from a partition that is not the primary one? And if yes, I believe that I can "see" the other partition anytime.
I will try it anyway.
How can I use Ghost in order to do what I want? I have used ghost and it only copies the whole partition of the drive to another partition.
Thanks
Vangelis

I don't believe that's possible. Even if they are set up on separate partitions, you will still be able to browse to the other partition. I have Win2k and 98 on my HDD. When I boot to Win2k, I can still copy files to 98, like a document into the 98 My Documents. Because my Win2k partition is NTFS, win 98 can't see it. I am almost positive unless you have 2 separate HDD's, even if you dual boot with system commander, you will still be able to see each others files.
If I am wrong, someone will correct me.

System Commander Delux allows you to hide partions from the booting OS if you want.

and I should add... W2K (+ XP Pro) will allow you to encrypt files/folders from other users.
