Hi!
I've seen DSL that's why I like my cable (more expensive, though.
) A friend of mine has SBC DSL but I couldn't config it to "always on connection". He still has to use the "connection manager" Which I think is a pain. Is this typical for DSL that you acutally have to connect like a dial up account?

DSL kicks Cable booty here.

Cable @ $39.95/month, 3mb varied download bandwidth max (assuming it's also this price in my area)
DSL @ $34.95/month, 1.5mb consistent download bandwidth max

also u get the modem free, whereas i believe most cable co's charge you for that and the setup (dsl through existing tele).

Since I started this thread, and got lots of good ideas from you for consideration, I have gone ahead with cable, and gotten rid of the DSL. Simultaneously (although I don't think I was the cause), Verizon raised the speed on their DSL to 1500, so it's now competitive with cable in this area. However, I got a great deal on the cable -- TV and Internet for $20 EACH (you do the math!) for a 12 month period. Hard to beat!

One final word of advice...before switching to anything, tell your local provider that you are doing it. When I told my current cable TV provider (who can also provide cable Internet) that I didn't need them any more, they asked me what deal I was getting from COMCAST, and I told them. They said on the spot that they would match that, if I stayed with them. Sorry, but I already did the deal! Wish I had known earlier! So, if you have competition in your area, take advantage of it (and THEM!)!

Cable is fine as long as Adelphia isn't your ONLY provider in your area.. They simply suck..

Charter Pipeline here in the LaCrosse area (basically the entire county is on Charter ).

Along with the great reliability of cable internet (the only outage I had was when a truck took out the overhead lines up the block ), there is one other advantage of cable over DSL for me. I'm a core member of a computer users group, and provide the internet connection and presentation equipment for our monthly meetings. I live in Holmen, the meetings are in Sparta, which is 30 miles away.

I just bring my modem & router, along with the rest of my gear, connect to the cable line behind the big screen TV, and we're online
Try that one with DSL
