"System failed CPU test"?/CPU multiplier
"System failed CPU test"? ok i get this error only when i start up a game or while im playing, it seems i only get it when the CPU is workin' hard, my computer is as follows... ASUS A7N8X DELUXE, Athlon XP 2600+(333 MHz FSB), WITH 512 KINGSTON DDR RAM, WIn2K + service packs, blah blah, sorry if i sound s0 excited i've posted this on like 4 different forums, including nforcers.com and amdforums.com, not one person can figure this out, but i updated those forums with this INFO asus sent me... here it is.. "system failed CPU test issue normally occurs during mistaken selection of CPU multiplier. If user have chosen the original CPU multiplier setting package, the BIOS should have no trouble detect the CPU and pass the POST. If the setting does not match the CPU's exact speed, the POST will see this setting as false"-
Ok people heres the deal, i have the CPU multiplier on Auto, w/e that does... i dont wanna change the numbers untill i get some feedback b/c i dont kno much about the whole "CPU multiplier" overclocking thing,.... i dont need an overclocked beast i just want it 2 work right, and i noticed that the CPU External rate or something like that keeps setting its self back 2 100, i have no idea why, i have the lastest BIOS version from the ASUSUpdater, if anyone could give me a list of BIOS settings or suggestions, please people, i realy need help...

I believe the correct multiplier for your CPU is 12.5 FSB 166Mhz (333DDR) (2.1Ghz)
Also, how many watts is your powersupply and is it a name brand power supply? (should be at least a 350w)

Omardeth, The Power-Supply says 250W Switching power supply. S0 if 350 is recomended, i have 2 get a new PowerSupply, either that or the motherboard is defected... Thanks For that INFO, i had not a clue that the power supply could be effectiing my machine, up intill 2 mins ag0, i just got off the phone with Technical Support from MWAVE.COM, this is were i bought the board.. He also mentioned the power supply Wattage.. im glad u brought it up, im gonna but one right now...
Wizzard, The Ram is PC 2700.

hehehe, You got our names backwards I asked about the PSU, yes, I think that is your problem, I blew a 300w with an XP2700 on an Nforce2, Definately grab a 350w powersupplly, most will recommend Antec or Enermax (both are high quality)
I think your CPU is starving for power when a game starts using the CPU intensively.
Let us know if this solves your problem. |
