2. PC booted I typed in my password and the screen came up with no icons - screen then flashed black and icons appeared but no task bar, screen flashed black again and then part of the task bar appeared, screen flashed black again and some more of it appeared, screen flashed black again and then some more (but not all), then it just sat there.
Note I have just done a rebuild on my PC
I have also flashed to the latest bios for my mobo

Yep. Definitely sounds like your CPU wants more juice. In my experience, if it's the RAM that's crapping out Win2K will usually get stuck while loading.
Bruneau - paranoia has nothing to do with it. I just know what the max temp is I want my CPU to run at. I don't panic if it goes over that. Comment deleted just ignore it.

Vert - if you do ever get it where it seems stable in windows, you might want to do a little further testing just to make sure. One little program I've found that really shows up instability is Prime95. It's actually a DC client, but they've also set it up to test CPU stability. It comes with a special torture test. What this does is make your CPU work on units for which they already have known good results. So it compares your CPU's results with the good ones. You can download it here: http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm |

I have this motherboard and I put the FSB at 166 and lowered my mutiplier to 11x (bad unlock ) and it wouldn't post. I ran it with PC2700 RAM as well. I had a xp 2000+ on it though. I have ran it with 12.5X150 and it posted fine, but never ran stable at all in windows.

The easiest way to find your default voltage is to set it to default, and then go to the PC Health Monitor section in your BIOS. It should give the VCore in there. |

Bruneau, you need to calm down a bit I am not attacking you in anyway, but I am and as you'll read EndobioticChaos are not happy with your smart and rude coments made. Perhaps I did not follow what you were trying to say in the begining but that gives you little clause to make the smart remarks as you did and continued to do.
If you are unsure about the posting rules here at TechIMO, then I would advise you to read the FAQ |
