but my cable internet only allows me to be online for a little time before it shuts off and i have to restart to get on. i have all the latest drivers and everything.
Depending on your area the cable modem (i have exp. with comcast both good and bad). We went beta for them down in SC about 5 yrs ago or so.. and they were very bad and had lots of down and unusable time - From my understanding some peps i still know down there have on and off probs.. I currently, up in DE, have had absolutely no major issues.... when your up run some diagnostic programs:
some ping tools would be good and some tracing tools.. ping your ip servers and nodes and see how they react... Comcast has (if you install it) a nice little checker that is graphical. This will not really help you immediately but if you keep regular tabs on this and make a list send them everyday to your ISP and complain. for they are not delivering you a service that you are buying..
What does your ISP say. Have they come out and checked your wiring, etc.? I was having a similar problem and in the end it turned out to be bad splitter.
