A Question about Laptop Hard Drives

I just recently made the purchase on a high end laptop. However, after reading a lot of info on other sites I realised I may have made a somewhat bad decision on what Hard Drive I decided to go with. Anyways, my decision was to go with a 60GB 4200 RPM ATA 100 at the time of purchase. The reason being that I wanted the extra space. Now I'm starting to think that I should have went with the 40GB 5400 RPM ATA 100 instead for the improved RPM. Would the change from 4200 RPM to 5400 RPM make a real noticable difference? I play a lot of games, seeing as how that will most likely be a factor when making the decision, heh

Btw, this is my first post here so just wanted to say a quick hello to everyone Really wish I would have found this site earlier, lots of good information to read.

You also have to take into account that higher capacity hard drives are more dense than lower capacity hard drives, even if the RPM is the same. Like a 60GB 5400RPM ATA100 hard drive will be faster than 40GB 5400RPM ATA100 hard drive. A 120GB 4200RPM hard drive will probably be faster than a 30GB 5400RPM.

If gaming is your only concern, then you probably won't see much of a difference there. Maybe games may load faster/slower either way by a few seconds.

well there's not much difference between 4200 and 5400 as far as hdd goes so I would have went with the bigger drive. Seek time is going to be about the same anyways

Do laptop Harddrives Have Buffer's? If so, then it should Be considered as well as RPM...
