bnos is on a distinguished road
external usb hdd problem

i need additional hdd,so i bought a enclosure usb 2.0 box and wd 80 gig hdd. windows xp found new usb hardware all devises in device manager seems to work fine,but i can not see my hdd in my computer. Help please

Welcome to the forum..there are lots of nice and knowledgeable people here to help you (and me) out with our tech problems.

Hmm, I dont know the answer to that one but hang on and some other people will surely help you out. The only thing I can think of is that about 95% of hard drive problems are either power plug or jumper problems....but the usb enclosure adds some different wrinkles that I am not too familiar with....perhaps the drive has to be partitioned before it is put in the enclosure? What did the instructions with the enclosure say about it??

What OS? What mobo? What USB2 card (if applicable)? Did you set the jumpers correctly (as per the USB box's instructions)?

These are just some questions that will let us help you better.

went to wd site.they suggested to put jumper as single drive. did'nt work. May be i should partitioned it before installation.

You will need to partition and format the drive before you can see it in my computer.

You can do this by going to Computer Management and then select Disk Management. From here you can see the disks you have installed on your PC.
If the external hard drive is installed correctly you should be able to see it.
