that would run me about $280 for 512, the board, and the chip. not bad. i think i'll do that i'm probably going to build another setup for myself, should i do a Duron 1.3 or a Athlon 1333? $7 difference.

Oooo... that's a tough call, the Duron 1.3 is a Morgan core and should perform about identically to the Athlon 1333.

I'd say go with the Duron in that case, the Thunderbird core was the biggest heat pig AMD ever made, morgan is based on the palomino core which, while on the same process, ran a lot cooler.

I'll see that, and raise you another 512 MB.

A Gig of RAM - Win 2K w/ Bryce, DW MX, Fireworks MX, and Photoshop. Photoshop eats it up! Filters run fast even rendering large projects. Besides, RAM is getting cheaper all the time.

I run a gig in my 2.4GHz P4 and in my iMac

Just out of curiousity, why are you even considering a Tbird? The XPs are only a couple of dollars more for a higher clock speed. 43 bucks for a 1700+ at accubyte. 1.47Ghz

http://www.accubyte.com/applications...=AMDXP17&sc=pi

Plus Durons while they may run a little cooler, the heat issue is overblown, and durons only have half the cache and run at a 200 mhz fsb.

David, you forgot 1 thing.

Intels are currently running on a 533mhz fontside bus, while AMD is still stuck at 333mhz (I can't remember that number).

This is the only real limitation to AMDs sucess, other than the delayed release of AMDs new chip.

It's AMD all the way, I've used it in three computers I've built and inside an MSI motherboard, I've never had a problem. Definatley cheaper and more reliable if you ask me
