Have you tried dropping to DOS with a 98/ME boot disk and fdisk /mbr? from the a:\prompt?

Work Welcome at TechInMyOpinion, Cerb!!

I did the "fdisk /mbr" command two weeks ago and not only LiLo was gone but also the bootfiles for XP
Be sure you have made XP restore/emergency disks before proceeding.
This is only a problem when you were triplebooting before. Meaning after lilo is removed you still want to double boot.

Owh many people seem to use bootpart.exe
However I havn't got any experience with it.

Try a win 98/ME boot disk, since those will have all of the COM files. If u need to download it, I hosted the files in a zip for ya. Just unzip the files onto the disk and boot it. fdisk from a:\ and all should be fine.

I don't know about xp, but when you fdisk the Master Boot Record in 95 and 98, DOS re-writes the info to the boot sector when you re-boot back into Windows. That's how I removed lilo from my 98/2K setup after moving Mandrake to another box. I've used fdisk /mbr countless times and never had a problem. But, I have never used the command on xp. Use a Win98 boot floppy.

I don't know why you can't. A windows 98 boot floppy, in my experience, will boot 95, 98, 98SE, Windows 2000, NT, Mandrake Linux, Red Hat Linux, and BeOS machines.

It should boot anything as long as the BIOS is set to boot from floppy first, because you are booting and running the OS on the floppy disk and not the Hard Drive. It should not matter what OS is installed on the machine.
