Kids i.p. addresses

First time poster here, o.k. here it is. How do you find out a person's I.P. address? Someone has made false profiles using my cousins name and giving out personal information like work, home and cell phone numbers. They are saying that she is gay and into really really sexual things and people are calling her at work and home. She has contacted Yahoo, and they take it off the internet, but they tell her that they cannot give out the I.P address of the person that is doing this. Is there anyone out there that can help me? Thanks

If yahoo is refusing to help you there is little that you can do to get the offenders IP.

The only log that will exist of them is in Yahoo's hands.
It's a stretch, but perhaps you could gather all of the pages that are posted and try and file something along the lines of harrassment? Maybe the law could get Yahoo to give the IP. Dunno and that is quite a reach

You should contact your local law enforcement in order to see what your best course of action should be.

If it were me, I would have a friend send me a specially prepared e-mail that I would leave unread in my inbox. Attached could be a file, that when run, would collect whatever information from the current system. It could then e-mail that info to an e-mail address of my choosing directly via an internet based SMTP server. The subject line and attachment should look juicy and worth opening even though it is false information....maybe something like "2002 taxes summary" since it is tax season.

This wouldn't be considered malicious since the e-mail is sitting in your cousin's e-mail box. If a criminal wants to break in and decides to run the attachment, then that's their fault and you could get their info.

OR

Your cousin could reset their Yahoo account password to simply stop futher damage.

I hope things resolve painlessly and quickly for your cousin!

cadetstimp: You missed the point man! Someone does not have the password of the real account, they are making new accounts!

In these accounts they put the friends info. The friend does not own or make these accounts, or put their info in there. Someone else does.

The person doesn't have access to the friends "real" yahoo account, just keeps making fake ones.

95123: Well if they are in court already then there is not too much else you can do. Lets just hope that everything gets resolved quickly for ya.
Best of luck.

the law is generally merciless with those who hurt/damage/abuse children. i'd say let the court take it from here, just make sure to keep pressing the case. Yahoo will submit eventually.

is the person ever online with these accounts?

i had a thought, you could try to get their IP by getting them to direct connect to you, its really the only other way
