RCA Cable Modem

With having broadband and pay for leasing of a modem, naturally I don't have a choice in which modem I get. I recieved the RCA Modem and this modem is a vitural PITA!

For the most part it functions good AFTER you are able to install the modem correctly. I have never had so much trouble with cable modems with installations as I do this one. Windows was carping on me, yes carping out, and therefor had to reinstall it after it froze during re-installation 3 times, finally found the culprit of why that was doing that. Anyhow it wiped out my modem completely and after about 3 shots finally got the drivers in. these are the most non user friendly drivers I have ever seen.

Not sure if anyone ever has this problem as I do.

With my cable connection in another city for 3 years I had used the Com21 Cable modem, that was a very good modem and easy to install and had the same modem for 3 years till I moved.

Yes I mean to install drivers for the modem to work. It will not work if the drivers are not installed, both modems I have worked with both required drivers.

What do you have to do for Macintosh computers? I do installs for cable company in area for Macintosh and also for my customer's PCs and Macs and we use Terayon modems....and it is just a DHCP server, which picks up an IP and serves it up to a NIC... Are you having to setup PPPoE....If so you might read....PPPoE or
PPPoE

Geeze, I hate this modem. My cable internet is down an I think its this modem. They say to check if your cable internet line is working plug a cable tv into it and check for full color tv and no distortions. I'm getting that and a couple of my friends have no problems with their service (we're on the same ISP, same city). Tech support thinks my modem isn't getting block sync and they want to send someone out this coming Friday (I'll be calling the local office to see if someone can come out sooner) and check the RF signal and voltage.

So, if this modem is the problem, I HATE IT. I'm using the ethernet connection.

Do you have your modem connected to your computer with a USB connection? That may be the problem.

I use the ethernet connection on my RCA modem, connected to my router/firewall, and then my computers connected to the router. It seems to be a pretty trouble free connection.
