PocketPC vs. Palm? OS 5?

im looking for a new pda. it needs to be powerful and as small as possible so i can fit it in my pocket. i was thinking about the tungsten t.

-Would you go with a pocekt pc or palm?
-What model?
-which has better 3rd party software?

I like my Ipaq because it's got lots of third-party stuff to install on it, and I can also use it as an MP3 player. I think you have to get a separate module for Handspring to play MP3s, and I'm not sure if palm devices can.

I can also do wireless/wired networking with mine, browse the web, use AIM/MSN, and lots of other stuff.

The only thing I would have against PocketPC devices is that they're usually more expensive than the competing models, but some of the Dell Axims get really cheap with all the coupon codes and rebates floating around online.

ive got an jornada 565 for sale 80 bucks. i paid 375 for it about a year ago, the reason im selling it so cheap is because it doesnt have a screen protector, and one of the clips for the battery is broken.

If your just looking for a way to store contacts, tasks, notes and some e-mail....palm OS is the way to go. It's fast and stable.

If you want to be able to use more advanced features on a regular basis such as taking dictation, playing MP3 and video, open/edit MS Office files, use modem, GPS, etc. then PocketPC is the way to go.

I myself prefer the Palm OS. It's simpler and does what a palm is meant to do. Once you get into the Pocket PC solution then I would feel more compelled to simply get a used SONY Picturebook or used Toshiba Libretto.

in case anyone didnt know with palm os 5 you can listen to mp3's, watch video, and the tungsten t comes with documents to go so you can edit word and execl documents, and view powerpoint presentations. it can also do gps, and all that stuff, can do email, aim, and can get on the web by connecting to a phone with bluetooth (if the phone is bluetooth enabled).

Personally, I like the power of the PocketPC. You can do more with it and it has more speed and memory. The Palm is good if you want an address book and calendar and minimal MS Word features, but the PocketPC is much more of a computer type device that gives you more options. The downside is that it is more complicated (although writing on it is easier because of the way their "Graffiti" software works).
