application mover didn't work and files are gone
Ya sure? Does it make backups of its "moves". Could be the files are somewhere you just don't expect.

PartitionMagic 5 has an app called MagicMover that moves apps to different folders/drives.
There was a link for a free download of PQ's Lost and Found from APC's customer service page but the offer expired 11/01/01.I could email a copy if someone would explain how to do that with Netscape

Bite your tongue girl.

When I suggested drag-n-drop, I was talking about moving the data over to the new drive, instead of trying to do it with copy or xcopy from DOS.

The problem with "drag-n-drop" when moving apps, is that most programs don't just install into one directory, they litter the the Windows and Windows/System directory with .dll's. Manually finding all the .dll's associalted with a particular app would be hard enough, (it's probably in the uninstall file though), but you'd then still have to registry to worry about.

I gave up and layed Winders over the whole mess and it is perfect!
Not one program worked before.

I just don't know some days!

Now to get the battery problem cleared up so I won't be forced to give the whole thing flying lessons

I only use XCOPY when I absolutely have to do something from a dos prompt.

Using Windows explorer works fine for copying Win9x from one drive to another, as long as you have explorer settings to show all files and remove all system/hidden/read only attributes to the drive. In fact, the only file that wont copy is the swap file, which is good, because this has the result of force creating a new swapfile, which means a fragment free swapfile.

surreal, let me guess.....

you performed xcopy32 to copy the files and folders, but did not copy over the registry AFTER xcopy32ing the drive. (http://www.techimo.com/forum/t5670.html)

By reinstalling Windows you rebuilt the registry and regained application functionality.

concerning your question on how to copy applications from one drive to another, this is not the easiest thing to do because windows integrates all sorts of application information into the registry. Without moving the registry (or at least modifying the registry to tell it where to look to find the applications new location) you will lose application functionality.
