@Home Service went down in Iowa, and the Solution

Woke up this morning to find that my Mediacom @Home service was down.

I noticed that the cable was still synched and I was able to reach one site that I had the IP address for.

I found a DNS server IP address from an old dial-up account and entered it as a secondary name server, and I'm back in business!!!

May keep this in mind if your cable service goes down.

Hey, does anybody have an IP for a real, public DNS server?

not sure about a "public" DNS server but I show these @home DNS servers to still be running

24.0.3.34
24.0.3.33

Also, it seems that I can get to UUNET (MCI/Worldcom) DNS servers from my @home service

198.6.1.4
198.6.1.5

Thanx Stimp!

I see elsewhere that @Home has gone down in other areas, and that AT&T is converting to their own system, which will be one heck of a process.

I don't understand why the migrating people from Excite to AT&T Broadband is that diffucult for some people? I turn my puter on this morning and it jumped me to a new page other than my normal homepage and told me to update my account settings and all is well. They emailed me as well to tell me to do this.

Sometimes it is more difficult then that. If they have the existing network in place, then it is ok. But if they don't then it's much more difficult than just updating your account settings.

If AT&T wasn't in your area, you may be waiting awhile till you get service back. Heck 4 million people just lost their internet.

Boy you are lucky then Neo, we don't have an alternative because we have Mediacom here.

Check this link for some woe and intrigue.

I have @Home through Comcast in the Philadelphia area and everything seems to be working as normal, for now hopefully they will stay the same until Comcast can get their network up!

Yes was aware that comcast might be effected differently, was more specicially talking about the @home and @ excite.

Interesting link thanks.

Seems this is so unfair to many people. Will people who loose services be compensated so how? or are they basically saying you are SOL?
