welcome to techimo.

just pick up a kvm switchbox and you'll be set. i have a linksys kvm and love it. there are others to choose from as well . hit the local computer store or pricewatch.com. newegg.com is great as well.

You need a device called a KVM switch with appropriate cables. This allows you to use one monitor, one keyboard and one mouse.

If your computers are hooked up through a network (ie a router hooked up to share cable/DSL over the two computers), you can use VNC as a remote control program. It will have a noticable refresh time, however.

If you are going to use it for things like dedicated servers or just as a file server, might as well save a couple of bucks, eh?

I use VNC quite a bit and it works great. I have it on all my systems so without monitors, keyboards and mice and others with everything. I can control all of the computers from one location using it whichh makes it nice. I just set all the computers up as a server with VNC and my main with the viewer and I can just pick which system and enter the password I have put on all the other puters.

Why would it not work to just use one monitor with two CPU's underneath it without any extra equipment? Is that just too much trouble to have to plug in and unplug every time? We have 2 CPU's, one monitor, 2 users... One desk - so they would never be using it at the same time. DO I still have to get that extra equipment?
thanks
Rebecca

i've just built a new computer and it is a hassle to switch back and forth the monitor (i have an old keyboard and mouse i use for the old system). i hope to eventually have the old system working right so that i can just turn it on and access files i need off it (i'm having problems with networking them right now)
