Was this a bad buy?

http://www.compgeeks.com/details.asp?invtid=DL420BB-1B

I couldn't stop myself from scarfing this one up. I have a 1ghz SECC2 processor here to begin with. I'm going to investigate and see if I can put slocket adapters in and run Tualatins instead of Coppermines. Ought to be pretty snappy with RDRAM.

So did I do a bad thing?

Looks like it won't run Tualatins due to lack of bios support, but further investigation reveals it's only because Dell stopped revising it's bios. I'm not sure if I can use slockets with it, but I can find PIII 1000/133/256K SECC2 processors. I'm hoping the slockets will work with it.

Anybody have experience? The fast SECC2 processors don't come cheap!

I'm assuming that if I match the speeds everything will work.

SL4FP cB0
SL48S cB0
SL4BS cC0

So tell me, if I do need to match them can I get away with matching the steppings or do I have to match the S spec too? (Above examples are for the Slot 1 processors)

It's been a while since I messed around with this Intel stuff. AMD guy

Hi Prex,
Hm IF you already have mem, processor, hard drives then NO its a good buy. If I remember right it only takes RDRAM(not sure).

For $250.00 you could have a refurbished one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tegory=31 505
Its from Ebay but I have bought from the dealer (350Mh/256M/9g for $67.00 total) and they seem to be very good.

BTW I think this is what you are getting(without Proc, mem, etc.)

I think that since its got scsi subsystem, uses RDRAM, and is a duallie, and its a Dell that you got a fair deal.

Actually, one of those links is for a 410 and the other a 210. Both of those use SDRam (PC-133). The one I'm lookin at is a 420. I don't have any SCSI drives, but do have a few IDE drives. I also have a 1ghz PIII in SECC2 along with a couple of PIII 500s. I have 128 mb RDRam doing nothing. Most of this stuff is leftovers from upgrading other peoples Pentiums.

my bag Prex!

Thats what I get for jumping to confusions. I see it now.

Looking at some of the other prices for the 420 (50.00 for the mainboard alone!), and considering you already have the ram, Hd, and proc., yes, I think you got a good deal.

Getting tualatins to run on a slot 1 board is iffy. They run on lower voltages and use different signalling. Powerleap makes tualatin capable slot 1 adapters, but the BIOS also has to support tualatins as well.
