Hopefully they won't come back. If they do, we'll know it was something else and go from there. Please keep us up to date as I am interested to see if the app was at fault.

Update
Twenty-four to forty-eight hours after this post the problem started up again. I haven’t done much troubleshooting, I’ve been out of town until yesterday evening. Any thoughts now?
Regards,
Zotz Mein

are you running any DC's ? Also do you have any speakers close to your case where the HD is located?

I'm showing my ignorance but DC? I’ve got a small pair of cheapo speakers. The magnets in the speakers would need to penetrate the case, the computer is to my left, so it would need to penetrate the mounting plate of the motherboard and the motherboard itself. What you think? Unplug the speakers?
Regards,
Zotz Mein
PS – The speakers are about three inches away from the exterior of the case.

DC=Distributed Computing
I was thinking more a long the line of a unsheild sub for a pair of low $ speakers I wouldn't think that the magnets would be stonge enough.
Another ? that comes to mind is the power supply what rating is it. I wouldn't think the ps would cause the problem as your not really drawling that much current.
Other then windoze what else do you have installed software wise?

I should have known that, I’ve been running SETI for the last five or six years on various computers. Having been out of town for a week, I’ve still got a lot of thing on my plate and have not had the time to address this situation. I ran passmark.com’s DiskCheckup below are the results. Since this is a relatively fresh install, all I’ve got loaded is Office 2000, Adobe Acrobat 5.0 full edition, and VNC viewer.

May be totally off base here but you may need to check your power supply.
I fried 3 hard drives within a month due to my power supply underpowering my system.
Moved up to a 480 Watt Antec and haven't had a problem since.

Please explain check. Are you saying just to make sure it’s a particular wattage or is there some kind of test I need to perform?
I see what your saying. I’ve got a full compliment of peripherals installed and I’m sure the power requirements of one of these large capacity, higher RPM drivers is greater than the old Seagate 6.8 gigabyte drive that was originally installed in this system.
Warmest Regards,
Zotz Mein
