I recently installed Win XP Pro on my box (Frankenstein):
mobo: ECS PVXASD2+ w/ P 4, 2.4 Gig @ 133 Mhz,
modem: ZOOM V.92 Fax/Voice
In Win 98 SE it worked fine.
Win XP has a strange problem with it:
Connecting in the pop-up menu when opening InternetExplorer or OutlookExpress, the program freezes.

Device Manager shows no conflicts.
If I go to control panel, Network connections, right click the Dial-up connection and click "connect" a dialog box opens, displaying the phone # and "Dialing". The mouse freezzes for 10 sec and the modem stays silent. If I than click "Cancel" and right click the dialogbox, a window opens that displays a counter, counting down from 60 (the dial-up options are set to redail after 5 sec), and "Dial", "Close" and "More" buttons (More displays "Error 777). If I let the counter go to 0 it goes back to dialing but the modem stays silent. If I click "Dial" while count-down, the modem dials and connects to the ISP.

I searched everywhere but can't find the culprit.
One more issue:
The ECS board supports USB 2.0, but when I connect my USB storage drive I get a message "Highspeed storage device connected to a non high speed port".
Windows Hardware Wizzard does not recognize the USB/XP drivers on the support disk for the mobo.
I appreciate any help.
