Digital projector reccomendation

Hello,

I'm a college student interesting in buy a digital projector. I'm looking for something small and portable that has DVI, S-Video, and maybe RCA connections - sound isn't really important. The projector will be used for gaming and movies (I want it to be small so I can carry it around campus easily). I'm also thinking about renting it out to help pay for it.

I've been closely researching the Optoma EzPro Digital Projector 735 (see here: http://www.bestbuy.com/Detail.asp?m=...539#expa nded). It's around 2 grand and looks like a pretty good deal. I like it's size, weight, and looks, and am comfortable with the price.

If anyone can give me some thoughts on this item, or perhaps suggest a comparable model that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot,
Chris Hansen

In our corporate world, we have a few high-end Eiki's but I've seen a few of the smaller InFocus ones being used. Try to have them demo the model to see how loud the unit is. They run super hot and the fan can be noisy in lightweight units. Think about getting the highest capable resolution you can afford. Also price out the cost of replacement bulbs. They are usually modules and can run a couple of hundred $$$ each. Make sure it goes through a cooling cycle before you shut it off. I would get a good hardshell case for the unit if you plan to tote it around campus. The optics and image generator are sensitive to vibration and knocks. One of our units bolted to the ceiling next to an air conditioning unit has its image shifted slightly green because the dlp array got out of alignment and it too costly to repair.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the heads up on replacement lamp costs. I can't seem to find information on replacement lamps for the unit I mentioned. Any idea how much they'll cost? How often does it really need to be replaced? The lamp life quoted for that unit (2,000 hours) seems pretty good.

Thanks,
Chris
