Systems Optical mouse shakey pointer??

I have the Logitech iFeel optical mouse, and it works good, but as I move the mouse slowly in one direction, the pointer on the screen sometimes shakes back and forth instead of moving in the direction it's supposed to. It's hooked up to the USB port, could that have something to do with it? I have all the latest drivers for the immersion desktop and mouseware...

Also can someone make a recommendation for a high quality non-optical mouse? (assuming it is harware related and not fixable)

BTW I tried uninstalling the immersion desktop software thinking that wasit, to no avail....

I've run into this problem with a couple of standard Logitech optical mice. The problem does not appear to be with the mouse, but with the mouse pad. Try using the mouse on a flat, hard surface such as a table or desktop surface. If this fixes the problem, then it's the mouse surface that you are using. Hope this helps,

Jeff

The same occurs for me too, I use a MSFT Intellimouse Optical, and I noticed this same problem whenever I used the mouse on my gel mousepad.
Now, I have to use the mouse on the hard-wooden surface...so far no problems. Unfortunately, now I have cramps & pains in my right wrist Can't use the Gel anymore...

From what I understand Opticals like no mouse pad and you can find wrist wrests out there that way you can keep it but not the actual pad for the mouse. Second... I noticed what you discribed with ball mouses when I had a mouse pad with "traction bumps" which caused the bal to move around funny maybe its doing the same to the camera but I doubt it.

Hmmm... I've tried both approaches, and my dad has the MS Optical Mouse and it does the same thing... does anyone have any suggestions for a high-end ball-mouse??

Try using a surface that isn't shiny. Shiny surfaces cause problems with optical mice because the the optical light reflects off the surface...

i have a msft intellimouse explorer and i found i was able to get rid of the jitteryness by screwing with the settings in the control panel for it. i dunno, go figure, it's ms, but it worked.

i also use it right on hard wood and it works fine.

Is this a laptop? Maybe a conflict with the driver or support software for the built in pointing device? Since you using a USB mouse ..try disabling the PS2 mouse option in your BIOS if it is there. (...too many devices trying to control one pointer, Scotty!...AYE Captian, I've giving it all she's got!)

I have had the same problem when using my optical mise on a desk that has a fake woodgrain finish. I put a sheet of white printer paper under the mouse to test it and it worked properly on the paper but not on the desk. Try putting a sheet of white printer paper under the mouse and see if it clears up.
