Self-contained CPU water cooler?

I was looking @ www.1coolpc.com and came across the The Water X/H2O cooler. Anyone tried it? It's a self contained water cooler for your CPU. They have an article on replacing the 60mm fan it comes with to an 70mmTMD, 80mm, or a 92mm. Looks interesting.

Don't think many people have had a chance to get their hands on this yet. Even 1coolpc states they won't be getting them from the vendor for shipment until 2/14.

Its an interesting design thats for sure. Am a little skeptical of its performance due to the small size of the radiator/heatsink deal mounted on top.

For the price, $60 + shipping and handling, I don't think I'll sign up to be one of the first on the block to get it. Of course, if it proves itself to be a superior cooling unit, I may change my mind.

It really caught my eye and sounds like a great cooler. Don't want to be a lab rat on it myself though.

I dont think the performance to sound ratio is very good beacuse 1coolpc has already posted a mod to the fan with a complete fan relocation and fan replacement. It requires a complete disassembly of the unit. A 60$ heatsink should work VERY well as is, without this any redesign by the end user.

p.s. The remod of the cooler uses zip ties to secure the fan to the heatsink ???!!!

I think the performance looks fine. Knowing that OCers will want larger fans with more cfm they went ahead and showed how to mod it. That's really whom this is targeted to anyway. Many asked if this could be done in 1coolpc's forum so they checked into it and did it. Not to bad if you ask me. Ask for it and they deliver. When I have the spare money I plan to give this cooler a shot-there ought to be a few reviews done by then. If it does well then it will be in demand and if not then it will be gone and forgotten. The zip ties do look rather ghetto.

Water-x cpu cooler

I have purchased a water-x cpu cooler from 1coolpc and have been trying it out. I have a xp2100 cpu and an asus a7v8x motherboard with kt400 chipset and ddr400 memory with an 8xagp card. I found that the stock fan on the water-x unit did not provide coolest operations. I modified unit as on the 1coolpc site adding a tornado 84 cfm fan atop the cooler. I have recorded the following results;

running cpu at 5% load
cpu temp 60c/mb temp 37c/ air temp 28c

running cpu at 100% continuous load
cpu temp 64c/mb temp 39c/air temp 28c

I think the data speaks for it self. It would be nice to have a pump with greater through put and a bigger radiator. The fan ran about 5700rpm while the pump about 1900 rpm. questions contact me at real.genius@verizon.net

Its been covered before.
http://www.resellerratings.com/forum...threadid=56423 (Stand alone CPU liquid coolin?)
And from that thread, you'll find a link to another thread that asks the same exact question. Odd how it looks exactly like the Gyrox and Aguatec(http://www.dansdata.com/aguatec.htm) CPU cooler. Not only can you not find any information about Gyrox or hardware review sites that say that its a good product.

Review of like Aquatec Product:

http://www.dansdata.com/aguatec.htm

Summary is that it's not great. Appears that a stock fan may work better. Certainly not very good for a Socket A, as the unit is too narrow to line up properly with the Athlon rubber round support pads. I'm guessing there's going to be a high chance of cracking the CPU Die if you install it on an AMD processor without a shim.

Reviewer's conclusion on the product: 'As it stands, this thing's a white elephant. Don't buy one, and question the motives of anyone who gives you one as a gift.'

water-x cpu cooler reply

Normally I would agree with you that this should have been covered before, but I believe I have now furnished actual real world run data for this cooler and I do believe the data does speak for itself. This was not a simulation, it is a real chip xp2100 on a real motherbd asus, with real ddr400 and an 8xagp card. This is real loading at 100% doing real work not just some light bulb or heater element. The data suggests that many of the earlier reviews of this cpu cooler were lacking actual tests with real computer parts. The data suggests that the water-x cpu cooler is not the best but is far from the worst. Somebody spent a lot of time engineering this little self contained water cooler and I thought it deserves a little more attention then most of the reviews I have read. All of the reviews I read were only simulated tests. Dont get me wrong, simulations are of great value prior to actual real world testing, but real data, from a real user, with real cpus and real world loads beats simulations anytime. Since I really could not find a real data review for this product I bought one to see what it actually was capable of. I think thats also the value of these forums is for all of us to exchange real world user data from which we might all learn and grow with. I conclude that this world is not a simulation but is real. So as far as I know and have read all the articles before my real world data submission were just theoretical simulations. In fact all the links you suggested were simulations only no actual computer parts had been used to get to the authors final remarks. Now, since I have provided a actual computer with a xp2100 running at 100% load and had the water-x cooling this real computer you now have real data from a real user with real parts and can now make a informed decision about the performance of the water-x unit. So my only point being that to make an informed decision on performance we need more than a simulation.
