Networking Blues

I just got started in this so here goes.

I installed NICs in two computers, connected with crossover cable. When I go into network niegborhood, I can see both computers, from each end, but no access to folders, files,or anything.

What am I missing??

Both cards are identical 3com ISA cards, and both computers run 98SE.

TIA
BC

Did you enable file & print sharing on both? Then share something?

OK, Mick, how do I share something between them.

I can see both computers, when I open either one up, it's just an empty folder.

Ok, right click on Network Neighborhood, and click properties. Then select File and Print sharing, and make sure File sharing is selected (and print sharing if you wanna share a printer). Click OK, and it will reboot. After restart, then select the drive you want to share in My computer, and right click and select properties. Then go to sharing tab, and and share as something. Need to share at least one drive or folder on each machine for it to show up in MS browse.

Hope this makes sense. Tyring to be quick before some johnny-come-lately beats me!

Cheers
Mick
