windows 2000 installation problem?

When I try to install windows 2000 professional on my old HP Pavilion 8260, it just gets frozen during the installation with the following messages:
" Setup is starting windows 2000".
However, it just never starts ....

Could anyone give some hints?

Thanks!

The spec is at:

However, I upgrade the ram to 96MB.

Thanks!

Your system should run win2k without a problem (only some slowness coz of using swapfiles) ...

Usually older systems needs a BIOS update so win2k can function properly on them ... check if that is available ...

I will look for more info that might help in your case ...

I believe KenKun is already onto your problem here. Your PC does not seem to meet the minimum specs for Windows 2000.

It would appear you must go with Windows 95, which came with your PC originally, or Windows 98. I believe that system would be helped significantly by more RAM. Sorry.

Edit: KenKun beat me to it. Don't listen to me....

Thank you guys.
I update to the latest BIOS ( June 1998 version), and it works fine.
Now I have successfully installed windows 2000 on my machine.
Thank you again

Win2k Pro did not like my riva TnT video card, but Win2k Advanced Server worked around it.

General Win2k rule - if it is not on the HCL, expect more problems than usual

I would look at this document:

http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/documen...d=pv8260&lc=en

HP does not recommend installing Windows 2000 on your machine. Also, Windows 2000 runs terrible IMO with less than 128MB and is optimal with more than 256 of RAM. I would get the latest BIOS available from HP's site, put at least 128(I would buy two 128 sticks and throw them in) and then try it again. If you have trouble still, maybe you're better off just using 98SE.
