Linux DVD software?

Ok, I need some DVD software for Linux. What are some good programs I should check out? I know the DVD player is recognized, but I can not get the movies to play. I am pretty sure it is because I need a player that plays DVD. I currently have XMovie and XMMS installed for my media players.

Install either Ogle http://www.dtek.chalmers.se/groups/dvd/, Xine with the dvd plugin, VideoLAN http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html, or i believe Mplayer also plays DVD's

MPlayer is perhaps the best video playback tool currently available for Linux. Definitely check it out!

Which Distro? Does the DVD drive get recognized as a CDROM, at the very least? Do you need to execute mount /dev/cdrom1 /mnt/dvd, or some such? What does /etc/fstab, /etc/mtab, and lilo.conf have to say about the device? Xmovie works for me on DVDs, and I was about to suggest it, but you tried that already. Sounds like the DVD gets recognized, but the files are not associated.... Launch Xmovie and snooping around in Xmovie should get you to the DVD drive.

okay, I got XMovie to play, but it has poor image quality, staticy appearance and such. I am going to try MPlayer. Thanks for all of the info.
Dunbar, that is what I had to do, snooped and finally got it going!
