s/pdif out on a sound card

my sound card has spdif support, but i bought a digital coax cable and what kind of converter to i need to be able to plug it in, the jack for spdif is only mini rca while digital coax cables are normal rca, how can i fix this so i can get my playback going

It's a 1/8 inch mono phone to 1/4 inch mono (rca).

since its mono wont this not allow for dts decoding

16-bit PCM is sent in a mono signal. If you look at your digital coax cable, it has two conductors (center and ground). What would the "other conductor" on the stereo adapter be used for?
I use the adapter that I showed you the link for and it's worked perfectly. Just turn off AC3 decoding on your sound card.

**edit** I don't have any DVD's encoded in DTS, so I never tried it, but I know that when watching a DVD or VOB with 5.1 sound, you hear all the discrete channels.
