Hotmail problem

For the last few months I can't open any attachments in Hotmail. It goes to the McAfee screen, says it ok to download, then after hitting the download button it kicks me to another sign in screen where it's asking for my password. I can put in my password & hit enter & it just keeps kicking me back to that sign-in screen. I can hit the back button to go back to the download screen and the original email, but usually have to forward the email to my regular mail account & open it in OE. Very frustrating...went thru weeks of emails to Hotmail support who are absolutely no help at all. I'm sure it has to be something in my Internet settings somewhere, but I've tried all the obvious ones..ie allowing cookies etc. Can anyone offer a suggestions...other than dumping the hotmail

I'm not an expert, but did you try to disable McAfee when you are checking you e-mail? But that would only work if you know the sender that sent you the attachment... Don't want to download viruses... heh

Send a message via AIM to Kuasimodem Send a message via Yahoo to Kuasimodem
You could also set up Outlook Express to check your hotmail, and then you wouldn't have to deal with the stupid webpage interface

I check mine that way

If it is asking for you or logon again it sounds like a corrupt cookie or at least an obsolete one that cannot remember your password properly.

While IE is closed, you might want to look at you cookie directory and delete (to recycle bin) any cookies with a hotmail.com suffix. The the next time you go to hotmail IE will be forced to download a newer cookie from hotmail.

I noticed Microsoft is good at completely disregarding what cached files people might have on their pc when they decide to make changes to their websites.

If it doesn't work you can restore the cookies back into place from the recycle bin.

Media

Thanks for the help...don't have Mcafee installed...just the hotmail add on so I don't think it can be disabled...I'll try the cookie thing tho...sounds like that might do the trick. Seems to be ok when I log in from a different computer so it's definitely in my home puter. Also, OE not really an option...I don't find the security all that great in the "identity switch" thing...It won't download new emails without a password, but the old ones still are available for perusal...A girl's gotta have her privacy, ya know

That's totally understandable

It would be nice if it would not display emails for each user until they logged in... but then again, it is an M$ program... and we know how they are with security

BTW - If anyone hasn't said it yet...

Welcome to TechIMO!
