Computer boot problem
17
Hello, i have a problem. When I turn on my computer (put together myself) nothing shows up. Don't even ask about the video cards or monitor, those all work. My mobo is a Abit KR7-A, no raid. it has lights to show it has power and its running. Anyone have ideas or anything? I ordered a new mobo yesterday, but if i get my other mobo computer working that would be great. PLEASE HELP!!

Because i have tried 3 different (previously working an one is new) video cards and 2 monitors that work. To SPEEDO:
No beep, but north chipset fan spins, and chip fan.

Well ... frankly, simply because you know the vidcards and monitor are good may not be the whole story. By way of example: I have a Soyo board sitting in the other room with a 233MMX - I think that's a Socket 7 ... anyway it has a good vidcard in it also, but the motherboard is a poor design or bad run or something because vidcards do not seat in the AGP slot properly. Everytime I use the computer, I must power it up then hit Reset. Otherwise the test monitor I use simply flashes "No Video Signal." I realize it sounds silly, but this is for real. Long story longer: your vidcard (or something else) may not be seating properly on that board.
Good luck.

Carefully scrutinize the CPU after removing it for a chipped core.
If it looks good put it back in carefully and try it again.........

Or the problem could be just a basic setting.
Try changing the RAM for an older chip. Seriously, that was the problem I had just a couple weeks ago. The RAM wouldn't run at PC 100 and the mobo defaulted to PC 100.
Had the same "fans work, mobo light works, but no beep and no boot..." symptoms, so maybe its something similar for you.

I have found the problem, and its pretty severe: The chip is bad! Oh well, i will try to get a new one, but im trying to find low prices, maybe around $65 with shipping for an AMD Athlon XP 1700+. Thanks for the tips anyway though.
