Hello everyone. I am having a problem with my computer screen freezing up after about the first 4 or 5 seconds of trying to record sound with my microphone, which is plugged into the back of my new sound card. What I find strange is that when the screen freezes and doesn't allow me to move the mouse cursor, I can see the sound still recording because when I tap on the microphone, I can see the sound waves jumping. Also, the elapsed time for being recorded still continues to increase even after I can't move the mouse. So I'm not sure if my computer completely freezes when this happens, but after a while it will stop recording and not let me do anything and I have to reboot the computer, or the computer will just restart itself. Pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete just reboots the computer without letting me end the program that I'm currently using. I have a Sony Vaio (model PCV-7744), the operating system is Windows XP home edition, the sound card is a
Creative Sound Blaster 16 PCI, and the program that I am mostly using to try to record sound with is the primitive recording program that came with Windows. I recently installed the new sound card about three days ago, and disabled the original one through DOS. I also connected my music keyboard to my computer using a midi cable, which is still currently connected. The software used to install the midi program is
Voyetra Computer Music starter kit. In addition to using "Sound Recorder", I also tested to see if the microphone would record normally, using MTV's Music Generator, but it still froze. I'm not sure how big of a problem this is, and I just want to make sure that it won't progress. But I think that it has to do more with my new sound card than my midi software or the connection. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
