scsi with 25 pins?

ok i just got a scsi external harddrive for free, but i need a scsi pci card. i thought scsi was 50 pins, and never bothered checking the cable on the harddrive. but regardless, i have a high density 50 pin scsi card, are there adapters?

Hi,

Where does the 25 Pins bit come into all this?

Here a good article on SCSI http://www.datapro.net/scsi_doc.html

oh, oops, the harddrive cable has 25 pins. the pci card has 50 small pins. which i guess means it is high density

I believe that the 25pin devices were used only on Macintoshes. You need a 25pin to 50pin centronics cable or converter.

The 25 pin is an older, slower interface.
I have not heard of adapters for 50 to 25 but I have seen a reasonable priced PCI card here;

You'll need a convertor cable, or adapter. The good news is that, not only was that 25 pin SCSI used on a lot of older Macs, but it was also the interface for external Zip drives for PC. If you can scare up a cable for that, you may be good to go.

Hi,

In the early days MAC were the ones who had some standardisation even though it was different to PC stuff.

How old is the External Drive?

Here is sone info on cables that includes reference to 50 and 68 to 25 Pin adaptors http://www.itgujarat.com/scsi.htm

Cheers

Your welcome
I ordered a couple of these for my old Umax SE-6 scanner and my SCSI Zip drive.
No more ISA slot's on the new mobo's so the old SCSI ISA card was retired.

I had an old EISA scsi card and put that in the only EISA slot on my mobo, but i could not get it to detect. thought it was the card, that is why i am looking for a PCI.
