Try disconnecting and dialing up again, I used to do this a couple of times and sometimes the differences would be as much as 20k.

the download limits
who has limits on their d/ls with cable? I'm with RR and have never run into this.

Also, if my connection slows down a little, so what? I'm literally downloading 100 times faster now than with dial up. I just downloaded the full version of Americas Army. It took sixteen minutes.

Sorry about the profanity ,

In Australia we have cable on plans that have a download limit of 350mb for Aus$59.95 and then 15 c for every mb over.

And that is from one of our biggest telephone companys,
It is a joke, until we get some de-regulation we will be paying through the nose for cable..

I want to hit up our local council reprasentative for a huge
wireless lan on the gold coast, I see that starbucks does it !!

Government funded would be nice!!

We should ALL have the right to broadband Internet!!!!!!!!!

For FREEEEEE

Getting back to the original post. I'm experiencing the same 28.8
connection on a 56K modem on a P233 / Win95 machine.(I'm checking this out for a friend - it's not one of my boxes).

I didn't think the CPU had all that much to do w/ modem connection speed - loading graphics and the like, along with memory maybe, but not the connection speed between modem and server. Am I correct here?

What I'm getting ready to do is upgrade the modem driver. I know the phone line is good, because I consistently connect on my 1.33 Athlon box at 49.3K on the same line.

Thanks for any info.

- Bill
