(Not to thread-crap here but am I the only guy here that doesn't live in a big house on a huge lot all by himself? If I had Whomp-A$$ speakers like those I'd have to find a new apartment complex to live in 'cause the neighbors would have me kicked out pronto.)

I did exhaustive research while saving up for and finally buying my set of PM5.1's. What I came across (and experienced when I listen-tested myself) was that yes, the logitech subwoofer can deliver some serious bass. Now if you turned the PM5.1's bass control up it could pump out the thumps too- but the problem was that at this point the bass was far too overpowered, and flooded your ears with bass so that you couldn't hear anything else, so it didn't matter which had "better" bass.

Bottom line- logitech has the best bass, but there's too much of it. If you're really into music the Klipsch's have a better response curve, it's flatter and not biased in the low end like the logitechs.

Now back to the point of the post: alibibassman- you need to make a decision here. For your budget, you can get a pretty nice pair of 2 or 2.1 speakers. But if you watch a lot of DVD's, then maybe it would be worth your while to either find a) a good set of value 5.1 speakers or b) save up a little more for a pretty good pair of 5.1 speakers. The 5.1 is really enjoyable in DVD's but admittedly if you listen to a lot of music or game, the 5.1 is a little underutilized.

If you do go for the 2.1 speakers, Klipsch is a good buy and I believe that they are about 170 retail? Someone check me on this. There is another set of speakers called the Swan M200's. Here's a link to a review from a good site (IMO) don't be skeptical because they lack a sub- the drivers are full range and they weigh 26lbs a pair!

If you're going for the 5.1's, the MH-505's are pretty good, and I remember seeing them at circut city so if possible take a run down and give them a listen. A couple of the reviews I read stated it had slightly lacking bass and slighty lacking volume, however the planar speaker technology gives incredible positioning.

HTH

How about a nice compromise? Get some Altec-Lansing. They make some aweomse stuff for an unbeatable price. The ATP3 is a good set, and are currently 30 bucks at Best Buy. Or, if you're serious, go for the 621's, which are the best set I've heard. I've heard the Klipsch's and their quality is unmatched for the price, still, I like a really nice sub which is why I have my Z540's. You're not going to get prefection from logitech unless you shell out 400 for their Z680's, which are voted the best speaker system. I say go for the Klipsch! If you don't like them, return them. I returned about 4 speaker sets before I settled on my Z-540's. However, my budget was $50! You have more, so spend more. At $150 the AL 621's put up some competition for the Klipsch. I say try them both and bring home what YOU want.
