Make sure you have an System Administrator password (this is different than a user computer administrator). You can only get there via safe mode. Once logged in as administrator, you can change or delete any user's password. There are ways to clear this one too, but it is much harder and you can't do it from within Windows XP. Your kids may have figured out the encryption codes for the password lists in the registry. I believe the encryption level is higher for the system administrator password.

Question: In the answer explaining how to set up a System Admin. password, your reply seems to indicate that this can be done only in safe mode, am I correct?,
Also, is the Systen Admin. password clearly easy to create once in safe mode, and is it clear that if I am creating the System Admin. password ity will be treated as such and not just a plain computer admin. pasword?

Thanks in advance (I have been trying to figure out how to do this for months so I can install my Hauppauge TV drivers

hope it help

you know?if we lost our windows user account password? we can go into safe mode (F8 when booting up) to reset windows xp password ,but if you forgot administrator password, there is no way to change administrator password when you forgot it,the only way is to reset administrator password with a password recovery tool.my favorite is windows password Recovery 6.0
i recommend you have a try!
