Win2K PRO & PC Anywhere problem

I have version 9.0 of PC Anywhere and on a new install of W2K, after losing everything on my 98 machine, I found out that 9.0 is not compatable with W2K. So I went to Symantec site and downloaded the patch for W2K. I installed the program (ignoring the warning that it wouldn't work) and then installed the patch. While calling the machine from my father's house the start up screen came up after making the connection and had all these weird characters show up and immediately disconnected. Should I have installed the patch first and then the program? I use the program mainly for fixing my dad's machine when he has problems because it's easier than driving 400 miles.

Thanks for any help.

Bill

Can't help as I don't use PC Anywhere (use VNC instead - you could try that as it's free, but since you already own PC Anywhere it's not much help. is it?), but just want to point out that you can't patch something that's not there. So I can't see how installing the patch(unless it changes some win2K files rather than PC anywhere files) first will help.

Surely Symantec have instructions for the patch?

Cheers
Mick

As mickwish said, you already own PC Anywhere, so you may not be interested, but in the event you get sick of wasting your time with Symantec, check out Remote Administrator. It's much faster and more secure than PC Anywhere, and at $35, it's not a wallet buster. VNC is free, but it's slower and not as secure. Remote Administrator (Radmin) also includes file transfer capability, command line access, and remote shutdown. You can try a fully functional test version for 30 days. You can even try it for a while and if you like it, you can install the license key remotely.
