Game Hosting Problem because of router firewall

I have a linksys 4-port router (Network Everywhere) and I cannot host a game on Age of Empires 2. I think it has somthing to do with port forwarding but I don't know how to configuire my firewall to port forward a game...could someone help me please!!!

You have to identify which ports the game uses, then enter it into the Port Forwarding database on your router. I'm not too familiar with Linksys routers, another TIMO'er can help you with that.

Have you checked on Linksys' website to see if the NAT firewall supports the game, if they provide a 'configuration' on which ports to use?

Try forwarding ports 47624 - 47624 and 2300 - 2400 to the host computer LAN IP.

from http://www.practicallynetworked.com/...r_help_pg4.htm

btw, I Googled it ( http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&i...ort+forwarding )

Check this out

It's for Neverwinter Nights, but the linksys/port forwarding info is the same.

Hope that helps!

If you are using a software firewall too, you can always use that to check what ports the game listens to.

doesn't Windows XP have a built in Firewall? Maybe that might be contributing to the problem...

windows xp firewall is off by defualt

but to see if its on right click on my network click propertise, click the advance tab to see if its on

if you want a quick way of setting up a server for occasional play i would just put the computer into the DMZ host and forward the ports to the computer

I also have this 4 port router, and whenever i try to make a chat room on roger wilco or game voice no one else can join, some kind of stuff about connection problems. Could the router be causing this?
