How can I use a PC headset with a phone?

I want to be able to pipe my phone into my computer's sound card.

I have searched high and low on the Internet to find something that would allow me to do this, but have not found anything that seems to meet my needs. It seems like it should be a very simple electronics adaptation.

The end goal is to tie the phone into two seperate computers so that we can play CounterStrike with voice communication in-game, and talk with a friend over the phone at the same time while he plays CounterStrike with us.

I see two possible ways of doing this. Find some device that plugs into a phone jack RJ11, and has a 3.5mm speaker jack, and 3.5mm mic jack. The other way would be to get some sort of adapter to convert the headset jack on most cordless phones to where I can plug in a 3.5mm speaker and 3.5mm microphone.

I went to the local RadioShack and picked up a 2.5mm plug to 3.5mm jack. RadioShack Part Number 274-373. http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...5Fid=274%2D373

I also got a Mono-to-Stero splitter to seperate the mic from the speaker coming from the phone. RadioShack Part Number 274-375. http://www.radioshack.com/product.as...5Fid=274%2D375

I plugged this into my cordless phone and the speaker part worked (meaning I could hear the other person on the phone), but the mic part didn't work (meaning if I said something into my PC headset it wouldn't get to the phone, and the other person couldn't hear me).

Examples:
http://www.techimo.com/photo/showphoto.php?photo=2727
http://www.techimo.com/photo/showphoto.php?photo=2726

I'm not really sure where the problem is. I am asuming the mic on my PC headset works the exact same way the mic on the phone headset. If I plug a mono cable into the 2.5mm-to-3.5mm adapter if effectively crosses the speaker and mic channels causing feedback on the other end. Also if I run a mono cable from the Speaker plug to the mic plug on the Mono-to-Stero splitter I get feedback. There are 3 conductors on the jack, I'm guessing one is the speakers, one is the mic, and one is the ground.

I have checked my headset to make sure its working properly, and I even tried a different PC headset just in case.

Get a Stereo-Stereo connector. I know they sell em, I have one. They have gold plugs I beleive.

If you really want it all to be through teh PC, there's software taht works with a modem taht allows you to do exactly what you just said. In fact, Creative has a cord that plugs into some modems that acts as a hardware solution, although you need software to work it.

Do you mean use a Stero spliter instead of a Stero-to-Mono splitter? Because if I did that I would get feedback because the microphone plug crosses the two channels. The microphone is basicly a mono device, the plug looks like a stero plug but it merges the two channels together.

I beleive the headset jack on the phone has one of the channels for the mic and the other for the speakers, so I need to split them, which is what the Stero-to-Mono splitter does, it seperates the two channels (stero) into seperate (mono) channels.

Just use a regular telephone with a speakerphone option.

Unless you know of a speakerphone that I could plug in a mic and speaker to, it wouldn't work. I need to actualy pipe the sound into my computer which means I'll need a way to plug in a 3.5mm cable in for the speaker, and a 3.5mm cable in for the mic. Also it would need to be a full duplex system, and I think most speakerphones are half duplex.

I have to use a headset in the game to communicate with the other players in the game, which means I'll have something on my ears... and also I need to intently listen to both left and right audio channels from the game to guage the direction of sounds in the game.

Also, I wouldn't want any noise from the speakerphone to be picked up by my mic when communicating with other players in game.

RADAR that wouldn't work for what I'm needing. I actualy need to pipe the sound into my computer from a regular phone, not use the Internet to call up my friends.

I found this:
http://www.jkaudio.com/that-1.htm

and it looks like it would work great for what I'm needing, I just wish it didn't cost $150. I might have to wait a month or two before shelling out that much cash for a phone adapter. :-)

MJ,

It does pipe your phone audio into your computer. You can be talking on the phone and the Phone Wizard will pick up everything on the computer at the same time. It is a back way to get what you want.
