How do I get rid of this $#$#@ Macromedia installer?

I'm SO sick of websites asking me to install Macromedia it makes me sick. I am NOT going to install Macromedia to view pointless web ads. It doesn't seem to bother anything anyway, since I haven't seen any blank banner spaces, and yep--pop-ups still pop.

How the HECK do I get this program to stop querying me? I get queries sometimes two or three times a page--EVERY page of a site!

Change the sites you visit
or
Email the creators/owners of those pages with your complaint
or
Get over it

you could completely disable activex controls in IE...

in internet options, go to the security tab, choose Internet at the top, and hit the "Custom" button down on the lower right

I feel your pain Dputiger. I don't have flash installed on this box (and never intend to install it) and every time I visit the Techimo homepage I keep getting the "Please install plugin blah, blah." And most people only use flash for adds so it's not like I'm missing something but not having it.

My fix was to make the Forums page my Techimo homepage in my bookmarks and just tolerate it everywhere else since I've been too busy to find a fix. Still if anyone knows how to disable the stupid popup box in Phoenix I'm all ears.

Maybe install it to stop the pop ups and then exercise the skip intro or no flash option that almost every webmaster offers on their webpage.

Harness the power of CSS. In your Mozilla profile folder, insert the following code into the userContent.css file:

embed[type="application/x-shockwave-flash"] {
display: none !important;
visibility: hidden !important;
}

Looks familiar.... I went here well over a year ago. The content creators thought I was looney - things like 'why would anyone NOT like my wonderful content' and 'grow up, loser'. They apparently have fallen for the stuff.

I even emailed a few 'Flashed site' webmasters back in '99 or '00, many of them told me, I kid you not, 'Get Flash or Get lost'. Those old memories are rising yet again! I took their suggestion and left Interknot Exposer behind.

The problem is Internet Explorer with its 'All or nothing' attitude. You'd have to turn off ALL ActiveX controls, which is plain stupid. Or intentional, I can't tell.

Might I suggest, instead of purchasing a popup killer, try Opera as your browser. Opera is free, with advertisements in a fixed frame of the browser border; or you can pay for Opera and lose the ads.

If you try Opera, just realize that there are some legitimate webpage links that should popup a new window, and Opera will kill them as well. To get around that, just keep in mind that a click that does nothing might need popups turned on for a moment.

Reread the initial message: install on demand means the current version is not installed. I tried a Flash extraction technique and the install on demand windows kept on coming!

But the install on demand popups will continue.
