Difference between XP Pro and XP Home?

I just upgraded to Windows XP Pro from Windows ME(thank GOD), and would like to know the differences between XP Pro and XP Home, besides $40.00. Also could you tell me what is in the XP Plus! software? Thanks.

Xp Pro is better for networking, and you have a few more little options.

mostly network stuff. Like it allows you to log into more stuff, it gives you more admin options. You can also log onto the Administrative acount without going into safe mode and gives you the option to use all the account types, and not just admin, and user. You get stuff like poweruser and some others.

As for Plus!. It has a few themes (basicly a few cursors, and wallpapers). It also comes with some progs like an addon to allow you to rip to MP3 in media player. It also has some other games I think. Nothign amazing. IMO it's not worth the $29. I'd go out and buy Serious Sam2.

Here's a link for some info, and also a viewpoint.

Personally, I'd go for the Pro version - I think it's better to pay a couple of quid extra for something which I may not use, that to have to shell out a lot more when the time comes for me to need it.

XP Pro also supports multi threading.....Home does not.

Not sure, but I don't think XP Home supports SMP - so if you are using more than one CPU, XP Pro is a must.

here's what Helmig has to say about the differences.

And here is a M$ book chapter on the diffs!

Cheers

I was just informed about the Home version having to be activated, and pro and corp. don't. I don't know what this means to the average joe, but I would like to find out more about it.
Something that might need concidered also

XP Pro still needs to be activated - Corp doesn't.. There are actually no differences between Pro and Corp aside from the activation.

A lot of people make an issue of XP homes 'lack of networking.'
Which is just bullsh..

How many of these 'experts' manually configured 95 98 or NT4 network settings in a SOHO environment anyway?

I run a small network using XP Home and 98.
Used the XP Wizard to setup ICS.
Let Zone Alarm pick up the IP addys in the alert logs.
Then use VNC to browse.

XP Home cost me $170 Aud, XP Pro best price at the moment, about $350AuD.
ZA and VNC are free downloads.

Oh and about XP Pro Corp. If you are using it at home, you have probably pinched a copy from your workplace!
