How do you pronounce . . .

Well, I couldn't set this up as a 'Poll' for some reason, so just fill it in.

"How do you pronounce McAfee?"

McAfee (like McDonalds)

or . . .

McAfee (like Macintosh, then it would be spelled MacAfee)

I pronounce it "Mac-fee"

I don't know if it really makes a difference.

Hasn't there been an advertisement for McAfee on TV recently? SuperBowl? I remember hearing McDonalds pronunciation, but I'm not sure right now.

It probably isn't going to cure cancer or anything, I'm just trying to figure out how many people pronounce incorrectly.

Those that do of course, are going to say "I don't know if it really makes a difference."

Like MacDonalds.

Don't worry surreal. It'll grow back soon enough.

Cheers!

You can't decide a question like this without asking the person who owns the name. For example, the name Dougherty is pronounced DO-ertee, DOW-ertee, and DOCK-ertee, depending on where you grew up. (The real Irish would make the "gh" sound slightly guttural, like the German "ch".) Samuel Pepys pronounced his name "Peeps"; many of his descendants call themselves "PEPP-ees".

The guy who founded Lockheed Aircraft was a Scot whose name was spelled Loughead -- pronounced, pretty nearly, "LOCK-heed". He got tired of Americans, who didn't know any better, pronouncing it "LOG-hed". So he changed the spelling to accommodate their ignorance.

I pronounce the software's name MAC-a-fee, but what the hell do I know?
