You need to laod SMARTDRV for this, and you must also ensure that you don't format that partition during install.

either you are doing this from the recovery console (which purposely does not support wildcard or directory copying) or you don't have the right bootdisk.

d/l a proper win98se bootup disk and run it again.

mmm.
Ok. was previously doing it from the recovery console. doh.

I'm using a win98 boot disk. Have copied 106 files from the i386 directory. That's fine. Then I type in cd\i386.

Then I type: winnt

and I get ERROR101: Not ready reading drive D

I thought my cd drive was drive d, but apparently it's drive e (which I input to copy the files as per your instructions above). But now it's trying to read drive d?
