I dont think you have to worry about the proces being high. Last year I checked out a honda insight and it was only $17,000 BRAND NEW. The government makes the dealers sell the cars for less (especially in CA) because it reduces smog. With the pure electric cars that some dealers are testing...they are actually losing money when they sell them.

i just got done disscussing this whole topic with one of my coworkers. it seems as though the gov't is taking a big hit for about 50% of the total cost of these vehicles. however i would really like to see where this goes in the next year. if the can produce a model of a car that can break 12 seconds on the strip, than i might change my veiwpoint. with that and a little bigger please. im not a fricken midget, therefore i dont fit into midget cars.

Interesting. I think Toyota makes good cars, but I like Honda better. I think it's a good goal though.

I guess you don't know what you're missing?? I'm the proud owner of a 1989 Honda Accord LXi that has over 200,000 miles and it's still running like new, with never any engine or transmission problems. That's in comparrison to my folks' 1989 Ford Taurus that bit the dust at 125,000 miles. (that was the car I learned how to check and replace tranny fluid on) No thanks, I'll keep my Honda, thank you very much.

50 mpg is not all that much better environmentally speaking.

I hope they will be bio fuel ready as well.

I mean figure that the number of cars will increase during the period that these hybrids are rolled out. That means for each gas guzzler you take off the road you will be putting in 1.5 hybrids. Eventually you will be consuming as much or mure fossil fuels. Now the hybrids are better but the ultimate answer is to move toward alternative fuels. I.E. farm based products.

Public transport is not the answer either unless you keep the vehicles fully packed. Down here our public transport is 3 times less efficient that single occupancy 24mpg car over the course of a day. Mag lev trains are not terribly good even when running close to capacity as of current technology.

Farm-based products are fine, as long as they don't consume more energy to produce than they yield. So far, especially with reference to ethanol produced by fermentation of grains, that's not true. Biodiesel, well, maybe.
