Windows 95 No More

I got this yesterday from Bellsouth Internet Services...

Subject: Microsoft Windows 95 Support Discontinuation

Dear BellSouth FastAccess Customer,

As you may know, Microsoft discontinued support of Windows 95
effective November 30, 2001. Over the past year, BellSouth has
continued to support Windows 95. Effective December 31, 2002,
BellSouth will discontinue support of Windows 95, because Microsoft no
longer provides support to BellSouth or our vendors.

If you currently use Windows 95, you have the following options:

1. Continue using Windows 95. If you require FastAccess DSL
technical support and are using Windows 95, our Help Desk will not
be able to support you after December 31, 2002.

2. Upgrade your Microsoft operating system (OS). BellSouth
FastAccess supports the following operating systems:
- Windows XP
- Windows 2000 (service pack 1 or higher)
- Windows ME
- Windows 98 Second Edition
- Windows 98
- Windows NT (service pack 4 or higher)
- Macintoshâ 8.X, 9.X, and 10.1

If you choose to upgrade your OS, you can continue to use your existing
DSL modem. You will need to download the latest modem drivers prior to
installing your new operating system. These drivers can be found on
the BellSouth FastAccess website at:
http://www.fastaccess.drivers.bellsouth.net.

You can also choose to purchase a new DSL modem that is compatible
with the operating systems listed above. Our new DSL modem provides
many enhanced features such as dual port connectivity (you can connect
your PC to the modem using either an Ethernet or a USB connection) and
troubleshooting features that are built into the modem.

Please do not respond to this e-mail. For more information on
purchasing a new modem, please contact Technical Support at
888-321-2DSL (2375), and choose option 1, then option 2.

BellSouth FastAccess Team

At least they warned me/us!
I like how they suggest you upgrade to an OS that's going to be unsupported before long as well...

EDIT - I'm not complaing, I thought this was funny.

just for brainchild

Well, might as well cut to the chase and get an OS which starts out unsupported: Linux. ;-)

("You're a towel" "No, you're a towel" hehe, sorry just watched that episode)

i wouldn't worry about it to much. if it becomes a problem, then switch. as the old saying goes: if it ain't broke, don't fix it (unless you're someone like me who likes to purposfully break stuff just so i get teh chance to fix it).

Use whatever makes you happy ER.. No one's saying you should use Linux. But in all fairness when we start a thread stating that some M$ product is no longer supported you should expect some pengiuns chiming in (as penguins are want to do..).

Regards

I think the " " was missed.

I am no way against Linux. Just about every box I have dual boots between WinBlows and Linux.

I was just sharing what I got in my e-mail because I found it humorous.

As for me saying pb was biased, I know he's a Linux Guru, I was making a joke.

What do you need support for anyway, they aren't saying that it will suddenly stop woring with win95, just that they won't help you if you phone up asking how to set it up. (which you have already done)
I think I might install win95 on this machine, just to see how it goes.
but I'll do myself a dedicatred disk for /home first.
