MP3 question

Someone told me that mp3's can be played on all cd players (computers, portable, stationary, boom box, etc. you get the idea). I thought that they could only be played on devices that were specificly designed. What i am saying is, would a mp3 play on an old cd player or a boom box?

I haven't seen home systems that support mp3. Only car audio and dvd players.

Me too muno, but I'm betting in the near future all the MP3 support in car audio will cease to exist due to all the pending law suits Just a guess

MP3 on a home system wouldn't make much sense... you're able to hear all the artifacts from the encoding process, which would make you not want to use it.

That said, I have seen component DVD players advertised with MP3 capability.

With 'home system' I was referring to boom boxes and normal cd players. (and with boom box I refer to those things that have speakers integrated.. I don't know what those things are called. minisystems or whatevver).

Most low end DVD players made recently will play MP3's burned to CD-R (as data files). Possibly useful for background music at parties (make a custom disc).

My answer would be no, the reason... well first off Mp3s were first played on just computers, and just recently not LONG long ago, they have just finally made it possible to play MP3's on Minisystems, boom boxes, car decks, and DVD/cd players. Basically if they have a Mp3 decoder in them, as they would say on the box or so, then they would play Mp3, but for SURe mp3's will not be able to be played on your old cd-player.
