Geforce 3 card question, Pls Help

Hey i have a GF3. The on board fan stopped working I just noticed today. It looks like it has not been working for a few weeks. I removed the fan from the heatsink and was wondering if I needed a new one for my video card. Havnt seemed to have any performace probs yet. Was wondering if I needed a fan or not? The one that was on it prob didnt move to much air are they a necassity? Thanks.

You may not currently be having any problems, but I would suggest replacing it. Heat will quickly wear out electrical components. It is my opinion that by not replacing it, you are increasing the wear and shortening the lifespan of the product... even if you dont notice any immediate detrimental effects. Todays GPU's run fast and hot- they have fans cause they are needed, not to just look cool . Spend a couple bucks and replace it... or save your money for a new card .

GoodLuck,
Mortis

I'd call the store you bought it from and see if you can get a replacement (did you keep the reciept). They sometimes are just nice and will do a replacement. If not go to the company that makes it and try to get one. Putting another fan on could just be annoying, and since you can't easily tell the temp could not be working as well as the stock which could let it overheat.

You`d better use a new one dude...
When playing intense games for a long periods of time, the last thing you want to happen is a sudden crash.
Stability will come as an issue because of the extra heat.
Also, as Mortis mention, using the card without a fan will shorten the life span of your card significantly.

Regards

If you have nice low case temps with good airflow, Your probably ok. If your system already runs pretty warm then you should replace it. You can buy cheap ones at radioshack for like $2. Just use the hardware thats already holding the old one on.
